An outstanding athlete, Jim Bertrando,
played two years of varsity basketball, was a pitcher in baseball,
and won three varsity letters in football from 1972-1974. Jim
quarterbacked the 1974 team to the Steel Valley Championship garnering
unanimous All-Steel Valley honors and 1st Team All-Diocesan acclaim.
Bertrando threw for over 1,000 yards with 11 touchdown passes
and a 66% completion rate with no interceptions.
Jim attended YSU. Selected to receive the first Lawrence Stolle
Award, he was recruited by Rey Dempsey and played for Bill Narduzzi.
After college, Jim quarterbacked the semi-pro Youngstown Hardhats
to a 10-1 record in the Midwest Atlantic League and participated
in the 1981 NFL Buffalo, NY pre-camp for quarterbacks and receivers.
Jim is married to the former Debbie Conti and has two children.
He has worked in management in both the private and public sectors
and has remained a barber/stylist for over twenty years as owner/operator
at Real Cuts Barber & Beauty Salon. The Bertrandos reside
in Struthers.
