The Denny Barrett Memorial Award is given annually to the Cardinal
Mooney senior who most exemplifies Coach Barrett's high standards
for academic excellence. Jim Boniface not only won this award, he
may have set the standard for all future winners.
Jim was an All-SVC wide receiver, leading the 1980 team in interceptions,
receptions, and receiving yardage. He tied the school record averaging
25 yards per catch and lead the SVC in receiving yardage. He also
found the time to win four letters in track, setting the school's
high jump record.
In addition to his athletic achievement, Jim focused his competitive
zeal on his academic studies at Princeton University and the Medical
College of Ohio at Toledo. He spent five years in residency in orthopedic
surgery at Mount Carmel Medical Center in Columbus. Returning to
his hometown, Jim now practices orthopedics with his brothers, Ray
(Class of 1974) and Tom (Class of 1977).
Jim and his wife Christine have three children and reside in Poland.
