A strong case can be made that Melanie Congemi is the most decorated
female track performer in Mooney history. Not only did she win four
letters, she was All-SVC all four years. Melanie earned All-Ohio
honors in three of those years. Nearly twenty years later, she still
holds school records in the 400M dash, 800M relay, 1600M relay,
and 400M relay. Melanie won an additional two letters in cross country,
boys' cross country, since no girls' team existed at the time. For
three years, she qualified for nationals in the 400M dash finishing
as high as fifth in the country.
A year-round track performer, Melanie qualified for the Indoor
Nationals (AAU) placing fourth in the 300M and 600M dashes and finishing
eighth in the 60M dash.
Continuing her athletic career at the University of Mississippi,
Melanie lettered in cross country and track. She was twice selected
All-Academic SEC. After graduation, she served as a volunteer track
coach for Cardinal Mooney's boys' team in 1990 helping guide them
to a state relay title. Melanie coached track at YSU from 1995 to
1998 winning an indoor Mid-Continent title in 1996.
Currently employed as a territory manager for Implant Innovations,
a surgical sales company, Melanie and her husband Jim Stitt have
two children and reside in Boardman.
