Tom
Corroto taught his daughter, Carla, everything that he knew about
golf. Wow – did that ever pay off! Encouraging Carla to compete and succeed at
a time when girls' sports were in their infancy turned into a
life's lesson that Carla heeded well.
"Beat the Boys!" – was Tom's entreaty and Carla
took that urging to heart.
Carla
Corroto led the Lady Cardinal golfers to back-to-back undefeated
seasons in '74 and '75. She
was the SVC's medallist in 1976 after finishing second the previous
two years.
After
earning undergraduate and Master's degrees in architecture and
a Ph.D. in sociology, Carla is currently a professor of Architecture
at the University of North Carolina.
She
is married to Paul Clarke and lives in Greensboro, N.C. where
there are lovely golf courses at which she still tries to "beat
the boys."
