While Andy D’Apolito lettered in all
three sports at Cardinal Mooney, he starred in baseball posting
the highest batting average for two consecutive years. His stellar
play resulted in his All-SVC first team selection in 1975 when
he led the league with a .514 batting average. He was also named
to numerous All-Star teams. Andy continued playing baseball after
graduation. He was the City League’s top hitter through the 1980’s
and was voted both “Top Offensive Player” by the Inner City League.
After his playing days, Andy maintained his interest in hardball
by coaching youth teams. He could be counted on to be a positive
influence on youngsters and is well respected for his “servant’s
heart.” Andy was previously married and has a stepson. Presently
employed by Stamped Steel in North Jackson, he continues to volunteer
his talents to help those less fortunate.
