In 197, she was also a sectional and district doubles' champion, participating in the first ever Ohio girls' tennis state championship.

Janine played tennis for the University of Cincinnati from 1980-1984 where she was once again a four-time letter winner and in 1982 a Metro Conference Championship finalist. In that same year, she became the assistant tennis professional at the Trumbull County Club.
