Edward J. DeBartolo, Jr. Postgraduate Achievement - Class of 1964
Edward J. DeBartolo, Jr. has achieved
unparalleled success as owner of the San Francisco 49ers of the
National Football League. DeBartolo’s style and savvy have earned
him the continued respect of his colleagues in professional sports.
Ed has provided emotional and financial support for his players
and coaches. Steadfastly, he remained confident and supportive
even though his first few seasons resulted in disappointing won-lost
records. But, in 1992, the 49ers fulfilled their promise with
their first Super Bowl victory. Since then, the team has continued
to evolve as one of the model franchises, not only of the N.F.L.,
but in all of sports. With four Super Bowl victories to their
credit during the 1980’s, the 49ers earned the distinction “Team
of the Decade”. Ed graduated from Notre Dame in 1968 and is currently
the President and Chief Administrative Officer of the DeBartolo
Corporation. Married to the former Cynthia Papalia, he has three
children.
