Tom Detesco
Football - Class of 1963

Tom Detesco’s athletic discipline has carried over to a lifelong commitment to physical fitness. He can be found just about daily at the Youngstown YMCA going through a workout regimen. As a three-year letter winner in football, Tom started at guard and defensive linebacker for Coach Denny Barrett’s ’61 and ’62 City Series Championship teams. He was 2nd team All-City as a junior and, while serving as a co-captain as a senior, won 1st team All-City accolades and All-Diocesan honors.

Tom went on to John Carroll University where he relied heavily on the discipline and goal setting instilled in him at Cardinal Mooney.

Dr. Detesco has practiced internal medicine in Youngstown since graduating from medical school. For the first 25 years, he was in practice with his father, Dr. Andrew Detesco, a man well-known to all Mooney supporters since the school’s inception. In his parents’ memory, Tom has contributed to an academic scholarship that goes to a worthy Mooney student each year.

Dr. Detesco has four children and resides with his wife, Gloria, in Poland.
