A tremendous all-around athlete, Mike Giambattista earned seven
letters during his Mooney years: three in baseball, two in football,
and two more in basketball.
Mike was a pitching stalwart for Coach Ron Stoops' baseball team
for three seasons starting with an auspicious (3-0 with a 0.21 ERA)
debut as a sophomore and ending as an All-SVC pitcher with nine
wins, a 1.61 ERA in over 70 innings, and a more than respectable
batting average of .303.
Mike's gridiron career was even more impressive. He earned All-SVC,
All-NEO, and All-Diocesan honors in both 1980 and 1981 as a hard-hitting
and savvy outside linebacker. He was selected All-Ohio as a senior.
His teams won a state championship in 1980 and was a hard luck state
semi-finalist in 1981. Mike also starred in the classroom winning
the Denny Barrett Award his senior year with a 3.92 GPA.
Mike moved on to Brown University, where he was a two-year starter
at outside linebacker.
Currently, he is the General Manager at Hynes Industries where
he has worked for the past 17+ years. Mike married his high school
sweetheart, the former Jackie Orlando. They reside in Canfield and
have three children.
