One of the top golfers ever produced
by this area, John Hamarik won tournaments at every level of competition.
John won numerous junior golf titles, the Ohio AAA High School
State Tournament as a sophomore, many college events while an
All-American at the University of Tennessee, and the Chile Open
in 1982 as a professional. Among Hamarik's other athletic accomplishments
are All Steel Valley honors as a junior and senior averaging 37.2
and 36.2 respectively in SVC competition. He also played on the
Tournament Players Series in 1983 (posting two top 10 finishes)
and qualified for the PGA Tour in 1984. John's bright golfing
future was cut short by a severe case of arthritis. However, he
continues to make golf his life as a teaching professional and
golf club builder at Master Golf in Boardman. He's married to
the former Christy Fordyce and has a son.
