In the four decades of Cardinal Mooney
Football, no one ever had a more productive season on both sides
of the ball than Mike Hardie had in 1980. Mike led the Cardinals
to a 12-0 season and a State Championship. He ran for nearly 1100
yards, averaging 8 yards per carry and led the defense from his
outside linebacker position, earning more mascots for outstanding
play than anyone else on that talent-laden team. Mike was honored
by selection to the All-Steel Valley and All-State teams. Furthermore,
he was nominated for the Ohio North/South game. Mike continued
his education at Youngstown State University where he played fullback
and was particularly lauded for his crushing block and untiring
work ethic. Mike is currently employed by Boardman Township and
is married to 1982 graduate Colleen Walcott. They are the parents
of two boys, Michael and Brendan.
