In an individual sport such as tennis, sometimes an athlete's team
commitment might be overlooked. Such is definitely not the case
for Tony Hayek's sterling high school career.
Individually, Tony was All-SVC in both 1983 and 1984. He had a
career season record of 39 and 4. During his junior and senior years,
he lost only one match while winning an amazing 31. He and his partner
finished second in doubles in the 1984 Sectional Tournament to qualify
for the State Championships in Columbus. He is most proud of leading
the Cardinal netters to a SVC runner-up trophy as well as a SVC
championship title. In spite of all Tony's individual accomplishments,
his greatest contribution to the program may have been the amount
of time he volunteered to help younger players achieve their goals
during his academic breaks from Miami University. From a coaching
perspective, Tony's leadership over the years proved to be invaluable
to many of the team's future successes.
Tony is a physician in an Akron private group practice specializing
in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He and his wife Angela
have two children and reside in Fairlawn, Ohio.
