Al Hutko parlayed size and agility
into a lethal combination directed against Cardinal Mooney’s City
Series opponents. A two-year letter winner at offensive guard
and inside linebacker, Al made the All-City team each year. He
was instrumental in the Cardinal’s City Series Championships in
1966 and 1967. Co-captain and Northeast Ohio Honorable Mention
in 1967, Al was an outstanding punter. He held the record for
the best single season punting average for over 30 years. At Georgia
Tech, Al was a three-year letter winner playing offensive guard
and tackle. He participated in the Sun Bowl in 1970 and the Peace
Bowl in 1971.fter graduation from Georgia Tech in 1972, he received
his Master’s degree from The Florida Institute of Technology in
1979. A registered professional engineer in two states, Al presently
works for the Westinghouse Savannah River Company at a Department
of Energy facility near Augusta, Georgia. Al and his wife Lois
have two children- Chris (24) and Leslie (22).
