It isn’t often that a team’s
best hitter and best pitcher are the same person. That may happen
in Little League but not in high school. In 1976, during an All-SVC
diamond campaign, Joe Iacobucci did just that. He hit .428 in
SVC action and .482 overall, while posting a 7-2 pitching record
with a miniscule 0.52 ERA. However, Joe was no one-year wonder.
He lettered three years in baseball and proved his overall athletic
talent by lettering in football and participating on the 1973
State Football Championship team.
Joe went on to letter in baseball all four years at YSU, starting
for three years in center field. He led the Penguins in batting
and was selected to the Great Lakes Region – Division II
All-Star team as a junior. He boasted a .310 collegiate career
batting average.
Joe has been married to his wife, Sue, for 23 years and has two
children. He is employed by Kellogg’s as a Regional Sales
Manager in Dallas, Texas.
