Some men are anonymous because they
do little. However, others, like Jerry Kriss, are anonymous because
they are unassuming about their significance. Cardinal Mooney
High School opened in 1956. Also in 1956 Jerry Kriss began running
the time clock at Cardinal Mooney’s basketball games. Forty-two
years and nearly 500 games later, Jerry Kriss is still running
the time clock. Picture the sort of dedication and attachment
this sort of uninterrupted service engenders. Now, picture that
love of duty completely without monetary compensation. Jerry has
refused payment all these years. Jerry Kriss also helped the fledgling
football program at Mooney by coaching at the feeder school level
and doing volunteer work for Coaches Hudzik and Barrett. Not the
least of Jerry’s contributions to Mooney, was trusting her with
the education of his four children, Jerome, William, Susan and
Marge. Jerry may live in Boardman, but his home is Cardinal Mooney.
