Valerie Lawrence’s arrival at Cardinal Mooney ushered in four years of dominance on the hardwood for the Lady Cardinals. A rare four year starter and letter winner, Val was one of the leading scorers and rebounders op Mooney’s reign as SVC champions in 1980 and 1981 and sectional champs 1980. She received All-SVC honors in 1980 and 1981 with coveted first team recognition in 1980. She was the school’s fourth leading scorer at the time of her graduation in 1981. Val also participated in track where she was an outstanding long jumper. Dr. Valerie Lawrence Wise graduated cum laude from the University of Dayton after playing basketball as a freshman. She later graduated with a doctorate of Optometry from the University of Missouri/St. Louis and now practices optometry in Cramerton, North Carolina. She is married to Mark Wise and coaches her son, Marcus and his first grade team. Val also has a daughter, Madeline who is (5).
