Mooney's first golf coach, Frank quickly
established the golf program as one of the area's finest. An outstanding
physics and advanced math teacher, Frank used this talent to improve
his golfer's skills. During his tenure, four of his teams (1960,1963,1965,and
1966) qualified for State Tournament by either winning or finishing
second in the Northeastern Ohio District Tournament. His 1960 team
won the District with a score of 287, one of the lowest scores ever
recorded in this tournament. Totally dominating City Series golf
in the 60's, his teams, over a four year period, were undefeated
in 57 straight matches winning City Series titles in 1964, 1965,
and 1966. In all, his teams won four City Series titles. Many of
Frank's proteges went on to further success after graduation.
A strong supporter of Mooney's total
athletic program, Frank was also the school's first sports photographer.
Though seldom seen at a football game, he was always there in the
press box or on the roof braving the elements as his camera was
running. His quality game films contributed much to the success
of the football and basketball programs.
Frank, now retired, spends his free time
tinkering with his computer and getting out on the links whenever
weather permits. He lives in Boardman and has a daughter and a granddaughter.
