Roy Nard, Sr. Significant Contribtions - 1979-1995
Since the fall of 1979, Roy Nard, Sr.
has been the equipment manager for the Cardinal Mooney football
team. Responsible for all the equipment used by Mooney football
players, his job begins in August when equipment is first passed
out. He changes all face masks and maintains all equipment records
on each player and records of their physical exams. On game day,
he packs the equipment and puts each players uniforms in his locker.
After the game, he is responsible for the cleaning of the equipment.
Often he would take the jerseys home where his wife would repair
and wash them. At the end of the season, Roy collects the equipment
to send it to be reconditioned.
Roy is tireless worker and can often
be seem cleaning the locker room. He was a "Father"
figure to many of the players on the team. He is totally dedicated
to the Mooney football program, even to the point of working many
days when he was ill.
Additionally, Roy started helping Ron
Stoops with the varsity baseball program in 1980 as an assistant
coach and still has a hand in "bringing along" Mooney's
budding talent, assisting with the junior varsity baseball team.
Roy and his wife, Virginia, have
three children, Ken, Diane and Roy Jr., former boys' basketball
coach who currently coaches Cardinal Mooney's girls' basketball
team.
