Mike Scavina
Football - Class of 1979

 

 

A three-sport athlete, Mike Scavina earned seven varsity letters, including three in football, two in basketball, and two in baseball.  Mike played on Mooney's '77 SVC and District basketball championship teams.  He was selected co-captain of the '78 team.  In baseball, Mike led the '78 District Championship Team and was selected All-SVC 1st Team.

In the fall, Mike found time to star for the '76, '77, and '78 Steel Valley Conference Championship Football Teams.  That '76 team was a State semi-finalist.  Mike scored fourteen touchdowns in '78 and was honored with 1st team All-SVC and All N.E.O. accolades.

Mike was a three-year starter and varsity football letter winner at Columbia University where he was named co-captain and selected All-Ivy in '82; in addition, Mike was a member of the Northeast United States Academic All-American Team.

Mike graduated from the Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1987 and further trained in Internal Medicine and Cardiology.  Currently, he is an interventional cardiologist at the Heart Center of Northeastern Ohio.  He is married to the former Leona Spay who is an inductee in the Struthers High School Sports Hall of Fame.  They have one child.
