Rick Shepas
Football - Class of 1983

Rick Shepas has been successful at every level of football he’s tried.  He was a starter his junior and senior years at end and played a part in two State Championships.  Rick was an All-SVC performer and still holds receiving and punting records, including the all-time receiving yardage record.  Rick’s outstanding ability to catch the football in traffic was the talent that separated him from the near-greats.  But his work ethic and knowledge of the game are the traits that have made football his career.

Shepas received an athletic scholarship to YSU where he was a four-year starter and as a junior and senior was named to the Division I AA All-American football team.  Rick played professional football for the Pittsburgh Gladiators in the Arena Football League.  In 1996, he was inducted into YSU’s Hall of Fame.

Rick has gone on to a highly successful career as a football coach earning numerous “Coach of the Year” awards.  Currently, he is the head coach and athletic director at Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio.  He is married to the former Christine DiVencenzo and has three daughters.
