Nancy Shugart's contributions cannot just be measured in championships
and all-conference selections. She has made a difference in the
lives of hundreds of female track athletes over her career.
Her many district, regional, and state qualifiers are even more
impressive when placed in context. Many of these accomplishments
came before girls' track was divided into divisions based on school
size. Twelve of her athletes garnered All-Ohio honors and countless
more earned All-District, All-Regional, and All-SVC laurels.
Coaching girls' track from 1981 to 1988, Nancy was honored by her
peers when named the Northeast District Coach of the Year in 1986
and 1987. Her efforts to secure college scholarships for her athletes
included sending individual profiles and stat sheets to recruiters,
a practice unheard of at that time.
Nancy has also given freely and significantly of her time and efforts
to other Cardinal Mooney athletic teams, most notably by serving
as the statistician for the football program since 1991.
Nancy's easy-going manner belies her intense competitive spirit.
Cardinal Mooney is fortunate to lay claim to her loyalty.
Coming to Cardinal Mooney in 1977 to teach Theology, Nancy has
pioneered school programs in substance abuse prevention and peer
mediation. In 2003, she was awarded the prestigious Diocesan Golden
Apple Award for distinguished performance as a classroom teacher.
