Mary Ann Simko is a fitting choice
as the first female inductee into Cardinal Mooney's Athletic Hall
of Fame. Her achievements were limited only by the fact that Mooney
offered only three sports for women while she was enrolled at
the school.
Mary Ann was an All-Steel Valley and
All-Diocesan selection in girls' basketball in both 1977 and 1978.
Her records for points scored in a game (38) and rebounds (25)
have stood the test of time and still are the benchmarks for Mooney's
girls' basketball players today.
In track, again, Mary Ann was and All-SVC
selection, setting school records in the 100 yard dash, long jump,
and 440 relay.
Today, Mary Ann continues the pursuit
of excellence which characterized her high school years. She is
a marathon runner and is mapping plans to compete in a triathlon.
She is single, resides in Canfield, and is a Senior Pharmaceutical
Consultant for Smith Kline Beecham.
