Bob Stoops
Football - Class of 1978

Bobby Stoops has been involved with football since birth. His father was assistant coach and defensive coordinator Ron Stoops, the man who name is synonymous with Cardinal Mooney football excellence. Bob is proof that the acorn does not fall far from the oak tree.

Bob was present at Mooney football practices from the time he could walk. When it was his time to perform, he did not disappoint. As an end, Bobby led the Cardinals on the gridiron earning 1977 All-Steel Valley honors and All-State second team laurels, averaging over 23 yards per reception on offense and playing the kind of defensive ferocity that would earn him a football scholarship to the University of Iowa. Bob was also a two- year letterman in basketball at Mooney and a second team and All-Steel Valley selection.

While at Iowa, Bob was a four-year starter, a two-time All-Big Ten selection, and a 1982 All-American. He led the Hawkeye's to the Rose Bowl and Peach Bowl and was the 1982 co-captain and team MVP.

Bob is currently the defensive coordinator at Kansas State University, which boasted the #1 defense in the nation in 1995. He is married to the former Carol Davidson.
