Mark Stoops
Baseball/Football Class of 1985

Mark Stoops is the fourth member of his family to be inducted into Cardinal Mooney's Hall of Fame. Like brothers Bob and Mike, Mark made a reputation as a hard-hitting defender while also logging time at split end on offense. As a senior, Mark was selected to the All-SVC team, 2nd Team All-NEO, and honorable mention All-Ohio.

Mark may be even more deserving of Hall of Fame status as a baseball standout. He was an All-SVC third baseman both as a junior and as a senior. A power hitter who could also hit for average, Mark, in his senior year, batted .466 with 28 RBI's and six home runs.

Mark played football exclusively at the University of Iowa. He was a three-year letterman and two-year starter at strong safety, playing in four bowl games with the Hawkeyes. After graduation, Mark set about the family business - coaching football. Recently, brother Mike hired Mark to serve as defensive coordinator at the University of Arizona. Prior to that move, Mark was the architect of Miami (Florida) University's record setting defensive backfield. He has coached in four bowl games.

Mark is married to the former Chantel Saner. They live in Tucson, Arizona.
