Mike Stoops played football just the
way his father, the late Ron Stoops coached it ....with every
ounce of effort he had. Mike combined a fierce competitive nature
with an untiring dedication to making himself the best player
possible. He accepted nothing but excellence from himself earning
All-SVC honors and an appearance in Ohio’s North-South All Star
game his senior year. Besides excelling in football, where he
lettered twice, Mike also lettered twice in basketball and three
times in baseball where he also earned All-SVC honors. At the
University of Iowa, Mike earned All-Big Ten honors in 1983 and
1984 and garnered All-American recognition in 1984. He is the
associate head coach and defensive coordinator at the University
of Oklahoma. Since leaving Cardinal Mooney, Mike has played or
coached in sixteen bowl games, including last year’s National
Championship Orange Bowl victory. He is married to Nicole Wedgeworth
and has a three year old daughter, Peyton.
