Richard Toriello
Football - Class of 1962

To fully appreciate Dick Toriello’s accomplishments means revisiting City Series football in 1961.  At the height of the valley’s population and industrial might, the City Series was the only local league that attracted state-wide media attention.  Outstanding performers abounded and two-way ironmen ruled.

Dick Toriello was a unanimous All-City choice at tackle in 1961 after helping the Cards capture their first league title.  Co-captain, Dick was an offensive and defensive terror, riddling the opposition with savage tackles and blocking the ride series to near perfection.  He was unquestionably the best blocker on this championship team and was selected to the All-State 2nd Team.

Toriello received an athletic scholarship to the University of Detroit where he played on the freshmen team and on the varsity his sophomore and junior years.  The school dropped football before Dick’s senior year.

Dick works for Lancaster Truck Bodies in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.  He is married to the former Lucy DeLucia and has two sons.
