Jim was the first Mooney player to
be named All- City in the school history when he was so honored
in 1958. As a quarterback he led Mooney’s first gridiron teams
and on the hardwood was the leading scorer. Jim captained both
the football and basketball teams. He also starred as a pitcher
and hitter for the baseball team. Jim will long be remembered
for Mooney’s first victory over Ursuline as the quarterback who
threw the scoring passes for the touchdown and extra point in
the 8-6 win. Jim graduated from the University of Pittsburgh.
At Pittsburgh Jim played quarterback again, and again was a valuable
competitor winning several Back-of-the Week honors. His leadership
qualities have been recognized by the voters of the 17th Congressional
District who have chosen him for membership in the U.S. House
of Representatives. Jim married the former Patricia Choppa and
has two daughters.
