Chris Vecchione was a two-way
stalwart at end for Cardinal Mooney’s 1986 and 1987 teams.
As a junior, he earned second team All-State and All-SVC honors.
Captaining the 1987 team to the Ohio Division III State Championship
was Chris’ crowning moment. All season long, he led by example
and exhortation. His fiery style of play raised his teammates
to lofty heights. Chris was the mascot MVP award winner, 1st team
All-SVC selection, 1st team All-State pick and was selected to
play in Ohio’s North-South All-Star Game.
His football career didn’t end then; he went on to play
in two national title games at YSU where he earned pre-season
All-American recognition. He garnered eight “Player of the
Game” awards and was honored six additional times as defensive
lineman of the game. Chris was voted captain and given the Ron
Stoops’ Most Inspirational Player Award in 1992; he was
named the Vindicator’s Male Athlete of the Year in 1993.
After graduating from YSU, Chris went into the medical sales field
earning several national sales awards before starting his own
business, Quality of Life Medical. He has business offices in
Tampa, Florida as well as Youngstown, Ohio.
