Cardinal Mooney Athletes are indeed
fortunate to have had someone as talented and respected as Dr.
Karl Wieneke serve as Team Physician for the last 26 years. Dr.
Wieneke’s education and work experience uniquely qualify him for
his service to Cardinal Mooney. He was a magna cum laude graduate
of Notre Dame and Georgetown University School of Medicine. He
interned at the University of Chicago Hospitals and later did
surgical and post resident training at Georgetown University Medical
Center. Dr. Wieneke also served as Battalion Surgeon and Chief
Medical Officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve and as a faculty member
at the Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Wieneke was
awarded the Ohio Outstanding Team Physician Award by the Ohio
High School Athletic Association on July 15, 1993. His dedication
and conscientiousness are as unquestioned as his love of Cardinal
Mooney. Dr. Wieneke and his wife, the former Edith Henchar, are
the parents of three children- all graduates of Georgetown University
School of Medicine.
