The German Club falls under the leadership of Mr.
Ed Smith, our German teacher. The purpose of this organization
is to promote the German language and culture. The club does Christmas
caroling in German, has parties with German food, and hosts guest
speakers who talk about Germany. Field trips in the past have included
visits to a German restaurant in Pittsburgh, a German Dinner Cruise
in Pittsburgh and an opportunity for students to learn German dancing.
Mr. Smith is currently making plans for several field
trips.
In November, the group will visit the Penn Brewery for an authentic
German dinner. The restaurant also has a German band which provides
entertainment.
In December the club members will travel to Akron for the city's
annual Holidayfest celebration of Christkindl Markt. There will
be vendors from the city of Chemitz. There will be live demonstrations
by German craftsmen in glass blowing, glass painting, and wood working.
Students will have the opportunity to listen to German musicians
and take part in folk dancing and ice skating. The "Hutzenstub"
will provide a chance to sample German food, such as bratwurst,
sauerkraut and stollen.
In May, students will go on a German River Cruise featuring German
food, music, and dancers.
