The Service Club continues to be involved in numerous activities that will impact the community. On Saturday, Feb. 21, we will have members participating in the Special Olympics, "Basketball Skills Event" at the downtown YMCA. Sunday, March 15, St. Patrick's Day Parade. Students will sell green carnations along the parade route to benefit the Eastern Regional Kidney Foundation. March 22 and 29, St Patrick Church on Oak Hill. Students will assist with the Parish Renewal. Teens for Jeans In conjunction with AEROPOSTALE, we will be collecting clean, gently worn jeans to be distributed to homeless shelters and charities in our area. Jeans can be of any size and may be dropped off in the boxes in the main lobby or room 113. The last day for the collection is Feb. 20. Our goal is 500 pairs. Pop Tabs We are continuing to collect pop tabs for our Teen Outreach group for Akron Children's Hospital. These pop tabs will benefit the dialysis unit and may be dropped off in the main office or roon 113. Students in Free Enterprise Cardinal Mooney students and families are invited to participate in a program called "Students in Free Enterprise. This program is in conjunction with John Carroll University and is being co-ordinated by Addie Handel, a 2005 CMHS graduate. We are requesting donations of gently worn professional clothing that will be used for individuals participating in interviews and eventually entry into the workplace. Clothing items can include dress shirts and blouses, polo shirts, pants, skirts, suits, blazers, ties and the like. Please check to see what you have in your closets that you no longer wear that might assist someone in need. Bring your donations to school the week of February 23-27. Thank you for your help. About the Service Club: This club is open to anyone who has the desire to serve others. We volunteer for many events and activities both at school and in the community. This year we have already assisted at the Special Olympics Bowling Tournament, Kids Grieve Too! Spaghetti Dinner, and Easter Seals' Angel Christmas, which we do annually. A new event for us was helping at Villa Maria with their Fall Harvest Celebration. As the events are announced, our members are informed and then volunteer to help. We will have many more service opportunities throughout the year. Anyone can join for a $2 membership fee and a willingness to give of one's time and talent. Remember, "No one can do everything, but everyone can do something." Faculty advisers are: Mary Lou Rogers and Sue Trewella.
