OGT

During the week of March 15, all sophomores will be taking the Ohio Graduation Test (OGT).  Prior to Christmas break, all sophomores took a practice test in each of the subject areas covered by the test.  Currently, during our mentoring periods, our teachers are presenting study sessions and reviewing the practice tests with all sophomores. Parents of sophomores are reminded that we have many books for student use that help the students prepare for this test.  These materials can be borrowed through the Guidance Office. If you haven't done so already, you may want to check out the Ohio Department of Education website.  (http://ogt.success-ode-state-oh-us.info.)  You will then be able to access a student site or a parent site.  Each of the sites has a link to the following:  Practice for the Tests; See Released Questions; Resources.  When you access “Practice for the Tests,” you are able to set up your own account so that you can return multiple times. Another excellent resource is Study Island, a research-based standards mastery program.  All of our sophomores and freshmen have received passwords and information on how to access the site.  Study Island can be accessed anywhere that internet access is available.  If a student has misplaced his/her password, he/she should contact Mr. Ray Marks here at school.

OGT CALCULATORS

The TI 30X IIS is the official calculator for the OGT.  In order for students to become familiar with the only calculator allowed on the test, these calculators are available for sale in Room 105.  The cost is $12.00.  It is advisable that anyone taking the OGT this year or next become familiar with the calculator.

REPORT CARDS

Report cards for the second half term will be mailed at the end of the week of January 18.  Please note that tuition payments must be current in order for a student's report card to be released.

NEW PARENT INFORMATION PROGRAM

CHRISTIAN SERVICE CLUB NEWS

For most of us, Christmas is a time for friends, family, gifts, warm food and happy homes.  But many in our area do not enjoy such blessings.  In the true spirit of Christmas, the Cardinal Mooney family reached out to many in our area who are in need.
  • Seniors in the Christian Service Class handmade counted-cross stitch ornaments that were given to members of our community. Other members of the class assisted area preschools and nursing homes in their holiday preparations and programs.
As has become our tradition, we collected new socks for Fish Samaritan House, an inner city clothing store.  This year 1,600 pairs of warm socks were distributed to the poor, In addition, ten large bags of new toys were collected to be given out by Santa at the Fish Samaritan House.
  • As an entire school, we adopted families for the Christmas season.  All first period classes received a name of a family from Catholic Services.  Thirty-eight families  were recipients of beautiful gifts from our generous Mooney family.  Books, computer games, dolls, and warm clothing were just a few of the many gifts brought in for this project.  Over 115 children received 3 Christmas presents each!
  • The Christian Service Class had a Christmas Party for the primary students at Summit Academy.  Each child received a present from their "Secret Santa" as well as a Christmas activity book.  A good time was had by all!

  • The Neighborhood Ministries of Youngstown received book bags and school supplies for children in need in our area.  In addition to the school supplies, warm hats and gloves were included.

Blessings upon all those who so generously responded to the call of Jesus Christ to reach out to our brothers and sisters in need. Twelve members of the service club  participated in the Special Olympics “Basketball Skills Event” at the Downtown YMCA on Saturday, January 16.  They assisted the athletes in the various activities. Service Club members will participate in the 3rd Annual “Teens for Jeans” sponsored by Aeropostale.  The collection of clean gently worn jeans will be from January 19 to February 14.  All the collected jeans will be donated to homeless teens.  All jeans may be dropped off in Room 113 or the collection boxes in the main lobby.
