CHRISTMAS &
SCRIP
It
is not too early to start planning your Christmas Scrip
needs. Included with this newsletter is a Cardinal
Mooney Scrip Order form.
Scrip can help you to meet your Christmas shopping
needs and help to lower your tuition bill at the same time.
Remember that for every $100 in Scrip that you purchase
at Cardinal Mooney $2 will be credited to your tuition account.
Not only can you use Scrip for your Christmas shopping,
you can also use it for Christmas gifts for that "hard to
buy for" someone. Also,
you can involve your entire family with the Scrip program
at Mooney – grandparents, aunts, and uncles – and they can help
you earn tuition credits. Extra Scrip order forms are available
through our Treasurer's Office.
CALENDAR LOTTERY
Our
Calendar Lottery Fundraiser has begun.
Your support and encouragement of your student’s participation
is important to the success of this fundraiser.
Students who sell their quotas will receive free day passes
to be used on any day they choose.
The first sale after reaching quota earns a $10 bonus
and each additional sale after that earns a $5 bonus.
Bonus money can be credited to tuition.
Purchasers of lottery calendars have an opportunity to
win prize money each day of 2003 and receive valuable coupons
that more than defray the initial cost of the lottery calendar.
Included in the coupons are restaurants, dry cleaning,
a day spa, golf, pizza, tanning, oil change, bakery, fitness center,
ice skating, etc. Top seller in the school will win $250, second earns $150, class
leader will win $100. The
campaign will close November 18.
CAREER DAY
This year the CMHS Alumni Association
will again sponsor “Career Day” for members of our senior class. On November 18, each senior will spend the
morning visiting an alumni or friend of CMHS at his/her place
of employment. The students
will have the opportunity to experience first hand the environment
and activities of careers they are considering for their futures.
It should be a rewarding experience for our seniors, and
we are grateful to the Alumni Association for providing this opportunity.
SCHOOL
CLOSING BECAUSE OF WEATHER
If it becomes necessary to cancel school
due to inclement weather, we will have the cancellation announced
on the local radio and television stations.
Whenever the announcement
is made that all Youngstown parochial schools are closed, Cardinal
Mooney will not be in session.
If circumstances warrant that our school should close even
if the Youngstown schools remain open, the school will be announced
by name as closed.
ATTENTION .
. . . FROM OUR NURSE
.
. . . students who carry inhalers or Epipens at school must have
a medical permission form on file at school.
Please contact the nurse if you need this form for your

If there would be an emergency, we might need additional
information contained on the form.
THEOLOGY NEWS
.
. . A Prayer for All
Saints Day – November 1
Holy
Saints of God, All you who have gone before us in the great and
mysterious journey of life teach us how to love and serve our
God. Teach us to be holy and good and to treasure
the gifts and blessings God has given us in such abundance. May we keep our eyes on God as fervently and
fiercely as you did. United
with you, inspired by you, we sing God’s praises now and forever. +Amen.
. . . A Prayer for All Soul’s Day - November 2
Lord
Jesus, We come before You today to pray in particular for all
our loved ones who have gone before us.
We ask You to hear their prayers and to cleanse them in
the healing water of Your grace and love.
We pray that You will comfort them and invite them into
the heavenly dwelling place that God has prepared for them.
May they rest in peace with You. +Amen.
. . . Thanksgiving
Liturgy
On November 25,
we will gather as a school community to celebrate our Thanksgiving
liturgy. All are most welcome to join us at 10:45 a.m.
to give thanks and praise to our God.
. . . School
Retreat
On October 22,
students and faculty gathered for a day of retreat and renewal. The Lord was truly present in our midst!
The theme for
the freshmen retreat was “You Are Gift!”
The students responded to four challenges:
Who Am I… What Does It Mean To Be A Friend…Who Is Jesus
To Me…What Is My Call To Service.
Twenty juniors and seniors served as table leaders for
the day and fifteen of them gave personal witness to the challenges
set forth in the retreat. It was a profound day!
The sophomores
gathered at St. Paul’s Parish in New Middletown for their retreat.
Sister Kathleen McCarragher, OSU from Immaculate Conception Parish
gave the keynote address and conducted one of the sessions.
Students were divided into four groups and responded to
the theme of the day: “Building
Peace… Building Relationships.”
Jeff and Kris Kiko-Cozy, who led the students on an experience
of the dances of universal peace, conducted one session.
Other sessions included prayer and a guided meditation,
an exploration of communication skills, and a building of walls
and peace activity.
The juniors
met at the Champs Camp for their retreat day.
The theme of the day was “Finding God…Finding Ourselves.” Half of the day was spent in prayer, reflection
and discussion led by Ms. Paulette Petrosky, Principal of St.
Nicholas School in Struthers.
She challenged the students to look at the choices they
make and to see the interaction of God in our daily lives.
The other part of the day was doing the Champs Course in
which students worked together to solve the challenges set before
them. It was a great day of community building and
prayer.
The seniors
gathered at the Ursuline Education Center for their retreat. The theme of the day was “The Journey Continues.” Students rotated between four sessions that
focused on the theme: Prayer
for the Journey…Celebrating God’s Gifts to You…Getting to Know
You…Memories and Hopes. The day began with an opening address
by Mr. Tom Bagola from the Youngstown State University Newman
Center. The day ended
with a powerful sending forth prayer.
SPECIAL THANKS…to
the Theology Department for their leadership and commitment to
these retreats. Thank you to the entire faculty for their involvement
in leading sessions and serving as a support staff for the day.

The club is planning to participate in DARE, PANDA,
Red-Ribbon Week, Prom Promise, PEACE (ethnic & cultural),

abuse prevention activities, and the grade school program in substance
abuse prevention education.
During the week of October 25, members of CARD Control provided
PA announcements and a wall hanging in the cafeteria where students
signed their names as a pledge to be drug-free.
They also placed red ribbons on cars as a reminder of this
pledge.
Members will also be assisting the Austintown Township Police district
with their DARE programs at St. Anne Ukrainian and Immaculate
Heart of Mary Schools.

FUTURE BUSINESS
LEADERS OF AMERICA
Wednesday evening, October 22, 2003, the Cardinal Mooney chapter of FBLA
(Future Business Leaders of America) held their annual Installation
of Members and Officers. Seventy-five
members were presented for membership, as smiling parents and
friends looked on.
Installed as officers for this school year were seniors:
President
Petrina Morocco
Vice-President
William Sadler
Parliamentarian
Jeanette Rodesky
Secretary
Ashley Ruse
Treasurer
April Ruse
Historian
Jennifer Gonda (junior)
Installation was officiated by Ms. Wanda Knittel, Faculty Advisor for the
Chapter. Keynote Speaker
for the evening was Mr. Terry Reardon ('81), local entrepreneur
and partner in the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Homes.
The Mooney chapter of FBLA is the only chapter of that organization in
the Mahoning Valley, and one of the largest in the region. Chartered in 1999, it has boasted many honors
in state competitions, and last year even counted the Northeast
Vice President of Ohio as a member (President Andreann Catalano,
now a freshman at Ohio State University).
The organization gives students a chance to take those
skills they learn in their business classes and fine-tune them
by competing with students from this region, the entire state,
and then on the national level. They learn leadership and self-confidence.
We encourage parents to join the members
at activities and fund-raisers, and invite new students to come
out and see what it is all about.

How the Program Works
It's
Easy!

saves and redeems for great educational tools.
But unlike collecting receipts that can be forgotten or
misplaced, the points are automatically credited to our school
through your Giant Eagle Advantage Card®.
Please take
a moment to register. Call 1-800-474-4777. Give Cardinal Mooney’s School Number
–0145. Each
time you shop at Giant Eagle, and use your Giant Eagle Advantage

SPARKLE CASH REGISTER
TAPES
Think GREEN!! Green is the color of the Sparkle Market cash
register tapes now being collected by our school. These tapes will be issued by the local Sparkle
Markets from September 28, 2003 until February 14, 2004.
Last year through the efforts of all faculty,
students, and parents, we were able to turn in over $50,000 in
register tapes. Cochran
Sparkle Market on South Avenue presented our school with a generous
contribution of over $500. This
contribution enables us to enrich our computer and research facilities
in our library. Please express your appreciation when you visit
Sparkle Markets.
Remind your families,
neighbors and friends to save their Sparkle Tapes for you and
send them into the office or the Information Center.
Help us to continue to update our audio-visual equipment
as well as adding additional computers and software for student
use.
TOPS TAPESAVER
PROGRAM
The TOPS MARKET
(near Eastwood Mall) is also participating in cash redemption
for schools turning in their tapes.
TOPS has no cut-off dates. Any tapes from over the
summer will be accepted as well as those from this school year.
They will give us $1 for every $600 in receipts. This cash will enable us obtain lab supplies,
VCR’s and other audio-visual equipment without increase-ing the
burden of cost to our students and their parents. Save your tapes
and send them in.
PRINTER LASER AND
INKJET TONER CARTRIDGE
AND OLD
CELL PHONE RECYCLE
PROGRAM
Cardinal Mooney
High School is helping to keep our earth green by participating
in this innovative recycling program.
The FundingFactory will reward our school with
software and computer supplies for our participation. Please help us by sending your old inkjet or
laser printer cartridges to the school office.
When you upgrade your cell phone, send us the old one
for recycling. These programs will keep our landfills from
filling with unnecessary materials - items that most people just
throw away!
ONLINE SHOPPING
Cardinal Mooney
is also enrolled in an online shopping program.
The program site is www.Technology4Kids.com. The program is for many top-name merchants:
LL Bean, Lands’ End, OfficeMax, J.C. Penney, and Kohl’s Department
Stores, etc. Many of
these merchants offer money-saving offers and often offer FREE
SHIPPING to shoppers through the Technology4Kids web site.
To access the
program and send benefits to Mooney, shoppers must go to the www.Technology4Kids.com website and register. Entry to the merchant sites and special offers
must be made through this site.
Going directly to the merchant site will not give the same
benefits to the customer or to our school.
Any questions regarding these business/school programs may be directed
