As junior year comes to a close, many students are already looking ahead to what lies beyond graduation. Seniors agree that preparation before senior year begins can make the college application process far less stressful. Senior Mihali Frangos says, “Juniors who want to apply to competitive colleges should start taking the ACT as early as possible.” He adds that if students are unhappy with their scores, they should plan to retake the test multiple times before August, when senior year activities begin to pile up.

Another major piece of advice seniors emphasize is starting the Common Application over the summer. Carson Gross explains, “No one really wants to think about school during the summer, but starting the Common App early makes a huge difference.” Seniors who began their applications ahead of time say they felt more organized and less overwhelmed once the school year started.

College visits are also strongly encouraged before senior year begins. Senior Johnny Brenner notes, “Visiting schools early helps you narrow down your options and saves a lot of time later.” This is especially important for colleges that require long drives or overnight stays, which can be difficult to schedule during the school year.

Seniors agree that senior year is busy but exciting, and preparing early allows students to actually enjoy it. By testing early, starting applications ahead of time, and visiting colleges over the summer, juniors can set themselves up for a smoother and more enjoyable senior year experience.
