Cardinal Mooney Beakon Staff working during Miss Cunningham’s Newspaper class.

The Beakon is the school news page which is dedicated to keeping the Cardinal Mooney community informed about events, achievements, announcements, students, and more that happens throughout the year. Miss Cunningham’s newspaper class is in charge of writing articles for the Beakon. Students work during class time to write articles, collaborate, and make sure information is relevant. Newspaper student and Beakon staff member, William Petty, talked about the class saying “I gained valuable experience about writing and journalism from this class and helped get more information about the Cardinal Mooney community through my involvement.”

Students in the newspaper class go beyond just in the classroom, going out interviewing students and staff about events within the school. These interviews and collaborations help get more in depth information and different perspectives. By allowing students to do all the work like writing, editing, and reporting they gain experience with journalism while giving the school a reliable news source by their very own students.
