Goodyear, AZ, March 9, 2026 — While most teams are just starting to prepare for the long baseball season, the Cleveland Guardians are already working hard during spring training. The weeks before the season give players time to practice, improve their skills, and get ready for the long MLB season ahead.

From batting practice to fielding drills and bullpen sessions, players spend hours every day working on different parts of their game. Spring training also gives younger players and prospects a chance to compete for a spot on the roster while playing alongside experienced veterans.

Guardians third baseman José Ramírez said spring training is an important time for players to get back into game shape. “It’s about getting ready for the season and building our rhythm again,” he said.

Ramírez also said the early part of the year helps the team build chemistry. “We spend a lot of time together during spring training and that helps us play better as a team,” he said.

Guardians manager Stephen Vogt explained that the goal of spring training is not just about practice, but also about preparing players mentally for the season. “We want our guys to be ready for everything the season throws at them,” he said.

He also said this time of year is important for evaluating players and seeing who can contribute to the team. “Spring training gives everyone a chance to show what they can do,” Vogt said.

While fans mostly pay attention to the games, much of the work during spring training happens during practices and team workouts. The time players spend preparing now can have a big impact on how the team performs once the regular season begins.
