YOUNGSTOWN – Ava Weeks & Laney Hunt, both from our class of 2027, were nominated by our guidance department to attend the annual Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership seminar (HOBY) this past June at John Carroll.
Ava worked closely with her assigned group throughout various team activities. Ava said, “the environment was welcoming, accepting, and friendly, making me feel comfortable from the start.” The activities encouraged everyone to leverage their individual strengths for the benefit of the team. Over the course of the program, she recognized her natural leadership abilities and gained a better understanding of her strengths as a leader. The members of her small group were incredibly inspiring, and she remains in touch with many of the people she met.
Laney noted how much she enjoyed collaborative projects and breakout sessions with her group that “strengthened my problem-solving abilities and team-building skills.” She took part in discussion groups that emphasized the value of diverse perspectives and the importance of inclusivity in effective leadership.
Well done Ava & Laney!
