Ike Lake: Running Back for Cardinal Mooney Football

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Senior running back Ike Lake has become an outstanding leader for Cardinal Mooney football’s 2025 season. As of week 2 playoffs – his last game played – Lake has already rushed for 1,392 yards, which his longest being 93 rushing yards. Lake always has a remarkable performance that underscores his dominance on the field, only playing 7 games due to an injury that he’s still dealing with.
Lake’s performance has been highlighted by his game against Lake Catholic, where he scored four touchdowns. So far this season, he has reached the end zone 14 times, establishing himself as one of the most reliable offensive weapons on the team.
When asked about his favorite opponent, Lake pointed to Chaney, a matchup he always looks forward to. He also shared that his favorite uniform to wear is the team’s black out uniform, which adds to the intensity of game day. Lake also said that to get into the right mindset before kickoff, he listens to “Cut the Block” by Babyface E.
Off the field, Lake credits his mother as his biggest inspiration and role model. He looks up to her and follows her steps in life. He also expressed appreciation for his favorite coach, Coach KG, who continues to help him sharpen his skills and maintain his focus as a player.
Mooney coach Sean Bowen praised Lake not only for his athletic talent but also for his work ethic. “Great player, great kid, great student, works hard, very coachable, everything we look for in a Mooney football player and a Mooney student,” Coach Sean said. With his leadership, work ethic, and record-breaking performances, Ike Lake demonstrates the spirit of Cardinal Mooney football both on and off the field. Cheerleader Hazel Huff states, “When I personally think of the name Ike Lake, I think of excitement, commitment, and passion.” Lake brings effort to the table on game days, pushing through and always doing his best to bring us a win.
