This winter, Cardinal Mooney experienced full-on snow day madness as a series of winter storms and freezing temperatures swept through Youngstown. Temperatures stayed well below freezing throughout the week, with several days bringing heavy snowfall and icy roads that made travel unsafe. Because of these conditions, school was canceled multiple times, giving students an unexpected break and completely disrupting the normal school schedule. Teachers felt the effects of the snow days as well. Miss Cunningham explained that the sudden time off made it difficult to stay on track with school responsibilities. “Honestly, I got nothing done,” she said. “I planned on using the time to catch up on grading and lesson plans, but the days just blended together.” Like many teachers, she struggled to stay productive while stuck inside as the snow continued to fall. Students, however, found plenty of ways to enjoy the extra days off. Will Petty said he spent most of that week snowboarding and going to sleepovers with friends, barely spending any time at home. “Between snowboarding and sleepovers, I was never really home,” he said. “I honestly didn’t even shower much.” While some students tried to stay productive, many took advantage of the snow days to relax and have fun, making it a week that Cardinal Mooney students and staff will remember for a long time.
