YOUNGSTOWN –
We are incredibly proud of Anthony Sovick, a freshman at Cardinal Mooney High School and a member of our High School Band, who was selected to perform in the Kent State University All-Star Band on January 9–10, 2026!
Anthony, who plays tenor saxophone, was nominated by his high school band director, Stephanie Chizmar, for this prestigious opportunity. Students were selected from Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Michigan, representing some of the top young band musicians in the region.
During the event, Anthony participated in rehearsals led by university faculty, took part in a master class with a saxophone professor, and had the incredible opportunity to meet, rehearse with, and perform music composed by Nicole Piunno, who wrote two of the pieces featured on the concert.
The experience concluded with a final performance in Kent State University’s Cartwright Auditorium—an unforgettable opportunity and a well-deserved honor.
Congratulations, Anthony! We are so proud of you! 🎉🎷
