Cardinal Mooney High School is getting a big upgrade with the redesign of its courtyard, which is right in the center of the school. “It was by design the center of the building, for gathering and celebrating,” said by Ms. Simons-Cox. The courtyard is a place where students eat lunch, celebrate victories, and gather during events, so these changes are meant to make it more fun, welcoming, and beautiful for everyone.
The new design will include a red brick “CM” logo placed around the victory bell, giving the courtyard a fresh and meaningful look. There will also be a new deck and stage area that can be used for school events and celebrations. The landscaping is being updated with new trees, bushes, and flowers to add more color and life to the space. On top of that, new lighting will be added to make the courtyard brighter and safer.
This renovation is being funded by Margaret Lawson in memory of her late husband, Donald Lawson, who graduated from Cardinal Mooney in 1964. “It was his wife Margaret who gave us the gift, but they both gave it to us,” stated by President Mr. Nick Beyer. Once the project is done, the courtyard will be a place where students can come together, celebrate school spirit, and make memories.
