Excitement is soaring at Cardinal Mooney as the football team celebrates one of its most successful seasons in recent years. Under the leadership of new head coach Frank Colaprete, the Cardinals have turned the program around, finishing with a 7-2 record — their first winning season since 2017.
Coach Colaprete credited the turnaround to the players’ commitment, saying the biggest factors behind the team’s success were “their attitude and effort.” When asked about his vision for the season, he said, “To make sure we got better every day and every week.”
That mindset has paid off in a big way. Cardinal Mooney earned a bye in the first week of the playoffs and home-field advantage for Weeks 12 and 13. Colaprete plans to keep the same approach going forward, explaining, “We just need to continue to be who we are and work every day.”
He also hopes his players carry the lessons from this season into the playoffs, adding, “To continue to play the next play.”
Assistant Coach Sean said the coaching staff worked closely together to create a new team culture. “Off-season meetings were key. We talked about what needed to be done, and everyone was on the same page working together,” he said. His role each week was simple: “Whatever is needed.” Sean also noted that “practices and training have had more focus and attention to detail” this year, and when asked which players stood out, he proudly replied, “All of them.”
The positive momentum has sparked tremendous school spirit, with students, staff, and fans rallying behind the team as they prepare for the postseason. This remarkable turnaround highlights the dedication and hard work of everyone involved with Cardinal Mooney football.
