YOUNGSTOWN — Four Cardinal Mooney juniors, Kennedi McVittie, Nicolena Sandor, Mileah Durkin, and Zion Hensley, Class of 2028, represented Mooney this summer at the HOBY (Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership) Conference at John Carroll University.
The conference challenged students to build new relationships, develop leadership skills, serve their communities, and discover their potential as leaders through team activities, service projects, and leadership experiences.
“If you told me the HOBY Leadership Conference would be one of my favorite summer memories, I would not believe you,” Kennedi shared. “HOBY left a major impact on me. I made so many new friendships and gained valuable leadership skills that will last me a lifetime.”
Nicolena was honored to be selected to represent Cardinal Mooney and says the experience exceeded her expectations. Through team activities, service, and new friendships, she gained confidence and learned the importance of embracing new experiences. “HOBY taught me to make the best of new situations… a very valuable lesson to learn.”
Mileah says HOBY was an experience that helped her to open up to new people and experiences.“HOBY has helped me come out of my shell, see things from people’s perspectives, and understand new people better.”
For Zion, the weekend was a lesson in authenticity and growth. “Be yourself and try to learn all that you can. Take in everything and really listen…because they give amazing advice about life, leadership, and how to be successful with just being yourself.”
