Schools across the country like Cardinal Mooney are working to make lunch healthier for students. Many school districts are changing menus to include more fresh foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. They are also trying to limit processed foods and sugary drinks.

The goal of these changes is to help students stay healthy and focused during the school day.  Cardinal Mooney wants the best lunches for our students and wants the best food for us! Health experts say better nutrition can improve energy levels and even help students concentrate in class. Mooney hopes that better meals will lead to better learning.

Students at Mooney have different opinions about the changes. Some like the new options and say they feel better after eating them. Others miss older menu items that were more familiar. “It is healthier, but I still miss some of the old things on the menu like cookies on friday,” said Michael McGlone. Ethan Hanni said, “I like the change to better us and they care about our health.”

Even with mixed reactions, we continue to adjust our meal plans. Mooney is trying to find a balance between healthy choices and foods students enjoy. Over time, they hope these changes will make a positive difference in student health.
