Continuing our Teacher Appreciation Week, students are recognizing the individuals who have made an impact on their experience during their time at Mooney. Day in and day out teachers go above and beyond for our students. This week of celebration is to make sure they know how much we notice and appreciate their effort for the betterment of our school community.
Our first teacher we are bringing to light is Mr. Tofil, our Social Studies teacher. Mr. Tofil is known for his consistent kindness and for always extending a helping hand, constantly showing he wants the best for each individual student he interacts with. Tofil’s class is highlighted by fun creative art assignments and the opportunity to give detailed presentations often. From the first week of school he gives an assignment with the sole purpose of getting to know the student, so he can build a relationship and understand who his students are. “He’s thoughtful, he’s understanding of the workload of high school day to day, and is willing to help with an assignment or give advice when needed.” says Senior Grayson Dubos. The effort he brings everyday doesn’t go unappreciated, he is the definition of what a Mooney Cardinal is, and a crucial part of the Mooney Family.
Next up is art teacher Mr. Butler. Known for his creative and complex art assignments, and his willingness to give advice and demonstrations with unique art techniques. From pencil sketches, to charcoal portraits, studying the color wheel, and making clay pots, to learning oil pastel techniques. “He challenges you, and pushes you past what you thought your limit was, adding levels to your art ability. He creates an environment where you can see the benefits of hard work.” said Senior Colin Enright.
Mr. Butler is one of the longest tenured teachers currently on staff at Mooney. His experience and commitment to our school community anchors the culture and tradition of the Cardinal Mooney Family.
The last teacher we are highlighting is long tenured Math teacher, Mr. Rob Raseta. Better known as Raz. Raz is a staple of the Cardinal Mooney curriculum, known for his difficult Math courses. He is also known for his outgoing personality and kindness with his students. Commonly assigning his students fun nicknames within his classroom, and saying hello, sharing a smile in the hallway. Raz never hesitates to lend a helping hand. Known for taking extra time out of his day to sit with a student and review concepts, or demonstrate problems on the promethean board. Cardinal Mooney wouldn’t be the place it is today without the dedication and kindness of Mr. Raseta.
Cardinal Mooney is full of these unique teachers and their unwavering kindness flowing through the hallways. This week is to recognize these beautiful individuals, and to let them know, their dedication to our school and to the community does not go unnoticed. These teachers truly give our school the character, culture, and tradition that makes Mooney truly special.
