YOUNGSTOWN — Three more Cardinal Mooney student-athletes declared their intentions to play in college during a signing ceremony held at Cardinal Mooney earlier this month.

Ella Szalay will be playing lacrosse at Baldwin Wallace University. Kendall Scriber will be playing soccer at Ohio Northern University, and Aidan Markey is continuing his soccer career at Walsh University.

Szalay, a four-year starter and team captain of the lacrosse team, has scored 154 goals in three years. Szalay was named all-state and all-region, and holds the record at Mooney for goals in a season, goals in a game, and career draw controls. She is looking to carry another standout season into her college career.

“Baldwin Wallace has a real home feeling to it. The players, coaches, and community are all very welcoming. The campus is the perfect size for me,” said Szalay

Scriber transferred to Mooney her junior year, and was a great contributor to the team. In her career, she scored 10 goals and was a solid defender for the Cardinals.

“I chose Ohio Northern because they have a great pharmacy program and gave me an opportunity to play soccer in college.” said Scriber

As a freshman, Markey was called upon to be the goalkeeper for Mooney after an injury to the starter, and never looked back. Markey would go on to start every game for the rest of his career, holding the goal down for the Cardinals. The four-year letterman finished his career with more than 400 saves, was an all-district selection, and played a vital role in Mooney boys soccer’s great playoff success.

“Walsh gave me the best opportunity to continue my soccer career and get a great education.” said Markey
