This past weekend at the State Speech and Debate Tournament Cardinal Mooney put up quite the performance. Led by none other than Senior Fotini Pizanias. Fotini advanced to the State Semi-finals round where she placed in the top 10 in Dramatic Interpretation. Prior to the Tournament, Fotini also qualified for the National Speech Tournament coming up June 13th.
“I was excited and terrified at the same time, so much adrenaline,” Fotini stated going into the semi-final round. “But I was confident in my speech and my preparation.”
Fotini added that she was a novice, this being her first year ever doing Speech and Debate.
In her first tournament ever she placed last, 2 tournaments later she won the whole thing and placed 3rd in the district. She said the biggest difference from the first tournament to now is her confidence level and the amount of work she put in. “Learning to use my voice and not just speaking to speak or just saying the lines” Fotini said in reference to her piece.
She was coached by Adrianna Vennetti and Mrs. Popachak.
