(August 2-Youngstown, OH)- Mr. Daniel Landers, Interim President of Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown, Ohio has announced the hiring of Mr. Carey Palermo as the school’s Head Boys’ Varsity Basketball Coach effective August 2, 2016.  Mr. Palermo assumes the role from veteran coach Brian Danilov who announced his resignation this past June.

Coach Palermo joins the Cardinals after 6 years as Ursuline High School’s Head Junior Varsity Basketball Coach.  Under his guidance, Ursuline compiled a 111-66 record winning District Championships in 2011, 2014, 2015 and 2016.  Cardinal Mooney Principal Mark Vollmer stated, “We feel fortunate that Coach Palermo has decided to bring his accomplishments, work ethic and enthusiasm to Cardinal Mooney.  We look forward to a successful season under his direction.”

“I am looking forward to the opportunity to coach at such a great school,” stated Coach Palermo.  “Spring boarding off of Coach Danilov’s strong foundations, I feel confident that Cardinal Mooney will be in a position to vie for a championship this season.”

Coach Palermo received a Bachelor’s Degree in History with a minor in Secondary Education from Bethany College in West Virginia.  During his time at Bethany, he played Division III Basketball for the Bisons, captaining the squad for the 08-09 season as well as winning the President’s Athletic Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championship (06 & 08). Previously, Coach Palermo was a member of the Ursuline High School 2005 Steel Valley Conference Championship Basketball Team earning 1st Team All Mahoning County and 2nd Team All Steel Valley Conference honors (04-05).
