YOUNGSTOWN – This past spring, YSU invited area junior and senior students to apply to participate in the Watanakunakorn and Williamson STEM Summer Research Internship Program. This program provided the opportunity to work with one of YSUs STEM faculty on a research project and earn internship credit. Senior Audrey Anderson was one of 12 local students selected to participate. Audrey assisted Dr. Mike Crescimanno from the Department of Physics at YSU on research focusing on determining how “real” virtual (quantum) states. She conducted experiments that measured the isotope shift using two lasers to excite a two-photon transition in atomic Rubidium vapor and determining and measuring the effect of an AC Stark shift on a virtual state.
Audrey and her partner, Aiden, showcased their work on Aug. 15 at Moser Hall on the YSU campus with family, friends (including Mooney faculty, Miss Jennifer Policy & Mr. David Bernard) and other members of the local scientific community in attendance.
Audrey loved her experience, saying “this was amazing, this revolutionized how I will think about college and what I will do with my career!”
