Youngstown State football has focused on rebuilding and staying competitive in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, one of the toughest conferences in the country. The team has shown flashes of potential, with strong defensive performances and offensive playmakers stepping up in big moments. Coaches and players alike have emphasized hard work, discipline, and teamwork as they aim to return the program to championship-level success. A key player this year is Beau Brungard, he is from the valley and he won best college football quarterback in the nation. I asked Johnny Brenner what it means for him to stay in town and play for YSU and he said “ it means the world to me, to stay in town and put on for the city of Youngstown”.
Beyond wins and losses, the Youngstown State football program plays an important role in the university and surrounding community. It gives student athletes the opportunity to develop both on and off the field, while also bringing excitement and school spirit to campus. As the Penguins continue to grow and improve, fans remain hopeful that the team will once again rise to national prominence and add to its storied legacy.
